Manchester United scouts are keeping an eye on Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma

The Sun reports that Brighton & Hove Albion player Kaoru Mitoma has been under the watchful observation of Manchester United scouts this season.

The Japanese star made his Seagulls debut in August of last year, and since then, he has been a revelation with a number of standout performances.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and provided six assists in 27 games this season. Most of those contributions to goals have come this year. It should come as no surprise that he is being watched by prominent Premier League teams, and United is one of those teams.

Mitoma has excelled in his commanding left-wing position for the Seagulls. His work rate has been excellent despite his involvement in the goal. The Japanese have impressively won two take-one from each game. He has averaged 1.4 tackles and nearly four victories in duels.

These are qualities that manager Erik ten Hag would appreciate, but the key question is how Mitoma would fit in if he were to sign with the Red Devils this summer.

Rashford has been a regular on the left wing although he has played up front. The club graduate may move up to number nine if Mitoma joined.

Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho are still available for United, and they are competing for playing time on the left wing. As a result, we don’t think United will sign Mitoma.

During the upcoming transfer window, the focus should be on signing a marquee striker and a creative midfielder rather than seeking a specialised left winger.
