Casemiro avoids being suspended for United’s opening game next year

Nearly nothing good came out of Manchester United’s catastrophic Europa League defeat against Sevilla.

Erik ten Hag’s team was eliminated from the Europa League in the quarterfinals after their 3-0 humiliation in Spain. United had a two-goal lead before giving up two late own goals to draw 2-2 and give up a significant advantage in the first leg at Old Trafford.

On Thursday night, United put on a terrible display against the former Europa League winners and they were left regretting their decision.

All the players played poorly, with the Reds being absolutely outplayed. Meanwhile, midfielder Casemiro received another booking in the second-leg tie. Despite receiving his third caution of the competition this season, the Brazilian is expected to avoid a suspension.

As per the Manchester Evening News, Casemiro won’t be suspended for United’s opening game in UEFA competitions the following year as a potential suspension for the Europa League semifinals does not carry over to the 2023–24 season.

The former Real Madrid star is also available for both their next Premier League away game against Aston Villa and the weekend’s FA Cup semifinal at Wembley against Brighton & Hove Albion because yellow cards in Europe do not carry over to domestic tournaments.
