As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane may be available for the club’s Premier League match against Wolves the following week.
The French star has been out for the past three weeks due to what appears to be an ankle injury he suffered in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal against Sevilla, but United boss Erik Ten Hag earlier revealed that the 30-year-old would be back before the season was up.
If everything goes according to plan, Varane may be available for the home game against Wolves on May 13, three weeks before United’s FA Cup final clash against Manchester City.
The Red Devils face Bournemouth on May 20 before their league season closes with back-to-back home games against Chelsea and Fulham.
Varane has played 30 times for United this season after missing six games in October and November due to a leg injury. United has managed just two victories in their last six games in the Frenchman’s absence.
With captain Harry Maguire sitting out against Aston Villa and Brighton, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have forged an effective center-back partnership in United’s previous four games.
With Lisandro Martinez being sidelined for the rest of the season, Ten Hag could prefer using Varane and Shaw as a right and left-footed pair in defence.
