As reported by the club’s official website, Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has suffered a meniscal injury and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The Austrian star who joined United on loan from Bayern Munich in January, last appeared, coming off the bench, in United’s defeat to West Ham.
Before joining United, Sabitzer played in 24 games for Bayern this year. For Austria, he has earned 69 caps. He missed the team’s 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers due to knee issues.
Sabitzer was instrumental for the club at the time when Christian Eriksen was sidelined with an injury. His contributions to the Carabao Cup final were much appreciated.
The Red Devils have already lost defender Lisandro Martinez for the remainder of the season due to injury, and Sabitzer only makes things worse.
There is still some positive news for the club as Marcus Rashford and Scott Mctominay have returned to the training ground. The England forward did not play against Wolves, and United manager Erik Ten Hag has not yet provided an update on when he will be back on the field.
Meanwhile, the return of Eriksen and Raphael Varane should give United some encouragement.
On Saturday, United will travel to Bournemouth before hosting Chelsea and Fulham. The Red Devils will then compete against Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on June 3.
