Erik ten Hag Admits Casemiro Has Exceeded Expectations At United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has praised the immense contribution of Casemiro in his first season at the club.

The Brazilian midfielder, who joined from Real Madrid last summer, has consistently delivered impressive performances. In addition to his defensive prowess, Casemiro has contributed six goals and seven assists in 50 appearances.

Following his spectacular bicycle kick goal against Bournemouth, Ten Hag expressed his admiration for the 31-year-old, describing him as a surprising and exceptional player.

The manager stated that Casemiro has exceeded expectations and his impact on the team has been impressive.

As reported by the club’s official website, he said:

“He keeps surprising us. He’s such a brilliant football player. We know him as having very good organisation, positioning, anticipating, intercepting a lot of balls, winning duels, being a fighter, keeping the team together, but also being in possession of his passing, his distribution, and also finishing. Just a great football player.”

“Absolutely, by far. [on whether he has exceeded expectations].  His contribution is massive and I think even we miss him over eight or nine games by suspension.”

“He was in the start of the season, he was not even there, so many games he was not even there, but I think when we played him in midfield it’s good in balance. We had a lot of wins with this midfield.”

Casemiro faced challenges during his initial period in English football, finding himself often on the bench while Scott McTominay occupied the number six position.

However, he managed to secure a spot in the starting lineup in October, replacing the 26-year-old midfielder. Since then, Casemiro has consistently performed well in the heart of midfield, despite encountering a few unfortunate red cards.

Although he faced a difficult phase following his second red card, he has regained his form in preparation for the season finale with United.

The Red Devils only need one point from their final two league matches to secure qualification for the Champions League next season.

Once their spot is secured, the team will face Manchester City in the crucial FA Cup final on June 3. Casemiro’s role will be vital in helping United overcome their arch-rivals at Wembley.
