Manchester United are concerned about the possibility of Antony experiencing a repeat of the ankle injury that kept him out of action during the last two months of his previous season with Ajax.
Although Antony has displayed moments of brilliance, he has also encountered difficulties in several appearances for United.
Nevertheless, he has had a relatively successful debut season, contributing to 15 goals overall. Unfortunately, recent reports from The Independent suggest that Antony’s current injury suffered during a match against Chelsea may result in the premature end of his campaign.
The 23-year-old was visibly emotional as he was carried off the field on a stretcher during the first half of the game.
It is believed that he may have reaggravated the same ankle injury he previously endured, which led to his absence from Ajax’s matches. This recurrence raises concerns that Antony might face a similar period on the sidelines with United.
With Antony now sidelined for the rest of the season, Jadon Sancho could step in to fill the void on the left wing, just as he recently provided cover for Marcus Rashford in that position.
During the last game, the English international had an impressive performance from the right flank, contributing with an assist for Anthony Martial’s goal before halftime.
In addition to his goal involvement, Sancho made five key passes and created three significant scoring opportunities. He ended the match with a pass accuracy of over 80 per cent.
Throughout the current season, Sancho has seen fewer appearances in the starting lineup, but he now has an opportunity to showcase his abilities in the highly anticipated FA Cup final on June 3.
The Red Devils will face their arch-rivals, Manchester City, at Wembley Stadium, and Sancho will likely be motivated to emerge victorious against his former team.
