Erik ten Hag praises Jadon Sancho’s progress at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has praised winger Jadon Sancho for his impressive progress at the club this season.

Starting on the left wing, Sancho switched to the right flank following Antony’s injury in the 29th minute. Despite the positional change, the English winger excelled and contributed with an assist for Anthony Martial’s goal just before halftime.

His overall display included five key passes and three significant scoring opportunities, making him United’s most potent attacking threat in the 4-1 victory.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Fulham game, Ten Hag praised Sancho’s performance on the right side, describing it as a “very good game.”

The Dutch coach acknowledged Sancho’s progress and highlighted his versatility, noting that the forward is comfortable playing on both wings.;

As reported by the club’s official website, the gaffer said:

“He did very well on the right side, and I think he played a very good game today [Thursday night]. And I think Jadon Sancho was one of the players who [has made good] progress in this season.”

“And there were many players in our squad who made good progress. I think it’s a good base to build further on. He can do both, but I think he prefers to play on the left. But we have seen today he is very good on the right as well.”

Sancho has experienced a challenging season with United, contributing only six goals and three assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

However, there has been a noticeable improvement in his performance during the latter part of the campaign. He has displayed greater composure on the ball compared to the previous year.

While his decision-making in the final third has been a weakness, it is expected that Sancho will show progress in the upcoming season.

Manager Erik Ten Hag is likely to focus on enhancing his productivity during the summer. Although Sancho has benefited from injuries to key players recently, he will need to demonstrate consistency in order to secure a regular starting position for the 2023/24 season.
