David de Gea has already agreed to a new contract with Manchester United

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, David de Gea has reached an agreement on a new contract with Manchester United, although it still requires approval from the club’s hierarchy.

Once the deal is finalized, Nottingham Forest is expected to activate their option to sign Dean Henderson, prompting United to search for additional goalkeeper cover.

De Gea has been engaged in prolonged negotiations with the club regarding a new contract that would involve a reduction in his current £375,000-per-week salary.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who has been with United since 2011, will become a free agent on June 30. De Gea has also broken the club record for the most clean sheets by a United goalkeeper surpassing Peter Schmeichel’s long-standing record.

Ten Hag is looking to secure a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window to provide increased competition for De Gea, given the uncertain futures of backup options Tom Heaton and Jack Butland.

However, the preference is to spend around £15 million to acquire a backup goalkeeper rather than seek a replacement for De Gea, as the latter option would consume a significant portion of the team’s transfer budget.
