According to The Sun, Manchester United is considering offering Harry Maguire in a player-plus-cash deal to secure the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer.
Mount is reportedly the Red Devils’ primary target for the midfield position, and it was recently revealed that personal terms have already been agreed upon.
However, United still needs to negotiate a transfer fee with Chelsea. While the Blues value Mount at £70 million, United are hoping to pay a significantly lower amount.
The report suggests that the Red Devils may plan to include Maguire as part of the deal to acquire the 24-year-old midfielder. The Red Devils have set a price of £30 million for their captain.
Maguire has struggled to find regular playing time under manager Erik Ten Hag this season and is expected to depart the club in search of more consistent game opportunities.
Reports suggest that United might offer the English centre-back a significant pay-off of around £10 million as he may have to accept a 50% reduction in wages when joining a new team.
In our opinion, United would prefer to avoid such a scenario. Although Chelsea is capable of matching Maguire’s current salary of £190,000 per week, a swap deal seems unlikely.
The Blues have shifted their focus towards pursuing young and emerging talents, making it less probable for them to be interested in signing Maguire, who is already 30 years old and may potentially decline in performance soon.

While many United fans would be delighted with a swap deal, it would be surprising if Chelsea were to accept Maguire as part of the deal for Mason Mount’s move to Old Trafford.
The United captain could still attract a good transfer fee in the upcoming summer window and might find himself at a club like West Ham United.
