According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Manchester United are showing interest in signing Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos as they search for a top-quality forward.
While United has been linked to several high-profile strikers recently, Ramos is said to be on their radar. However, the club has yet to make an official offer to Benfica.
The reigning Primeira Liga champions are reportedly willing to sell the striker but will demand a fee of at least €80 million for their prized asset.
The 21-year-old has garnered attention as one of the most sought-after young strikers in European football. In the previous season, he scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances for Benfica. He also impressed with Portugal in the World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland in the round of 16.
Ramos is a prolific goal scorer and showcases an excellent work rate and consistent high pressing. He boasts an impressive average of 4.8 ground and aerial duels won per league appearance.
These attributes make him an appealing choice as a marquee striker for Erik Ten Hag, but his potential transfer won’t come cheap, with a price tag of €80 million.
United faces intense competition from other top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, in their pursuit of Ramos.
The Red Devils need to adopt a proactive approach in their transfer dealings, rather than focusing on one deal at a time. The club’s football director, John Murtough, has followed this strategy over the past year.
Currently, United’s attention seems to be centred on negotiating for Mason Mount and not actively pursuing other players. If this approach continues, it may result in another long summer for United’s transfer activities.
