Erik ten Hag eager to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer

According to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is eager to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot during the current transfer window. United expressed interest in the Frenchman last year, but negotiations fell through due to wage demands.

The 28-year-old is reportedly keen to play in the Premier League and United is among the clubs vying for his signature. The midfielder’s contract with Juventus is set to expire on June 30, and the Italian club has offered an extension at his current salary of €7 million (£6 million). The player could soon make a decision regarding his future.

Last summer, Rabiot had a conversation with Ten Hag, and a potential move to United seemed likely until wage negotiations broke down.

The Red Devils were unwilling to meet his demands of €10 million (£8.6 million) per year. It remains to be seen if they would be willing to match that figure this time.

Rabiot’s performance at Juventus in the 2021/22 season was lacklustre, with only two goals in 45 appearances, leading to criticism from some United fans regarding the club’s pursuit of the midfielder.

However, he experienced a resurgence last season, contributing 11 goals and six assists in 48 games. Many consider him an upgrade over the departing Fred.

In addition to his offensive contributions, Rabiot demonstrated impressive defensive skills, averaging two tackles and winning 5.8 duels per game last season.

If Ten Hag is genuinely interested in Rabiot, the Red Devils will need to act swiftly as the midfielder evaluates Juventus’ offer.

A decision is expected before June 30. While United wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee for Rabiot, he may request a substantial signing bonus in addition to his weekly wages.
