Manchester United show strong interest in signing Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat

Italian publication Fiorentine.it reports that Manchester United have a strong interest in securing the services of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat during the current transfer window.

The Red Devils have recently finalized a deal with Chelsea to acquire midfielder Mason Mount and the English player is set to join the club in the coming week.

Erik ten Hag is keen on signing a second midfielder, and Fiorentina’s Amrabat has caught their attention. United are said to be “strongly interested” in the Moroccan international, and there is already arranged a pre-agreement with the 26-year-old player.

However, the Red Devils still need to meet his parent club’s €30 million asking price. Amrabat’s current contract runs until June 2024, with an option for an additional 12 months.

Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in signing Amrabat, but United may have an advantage as the midfielder previously worked under Ten Hag during their time at Utrecht.

Amrabat has been in excellent form for both his club and the Moroccan national team in the past year. He has been particularly impressive in the defensive midfield position, showcasing his exceptional concentration.

In the Serie A last season, Amrabat boasted an impressive 90% pass accuracy, including an excellent completion rate of 80% for long balls. He also demonstrated his defensive prowess by winning 1.3 tackles and 3.1 duels per game.

In our opinion, signing Amrabat would be a perfect move to provide quality cover and competition for Casemiro. While Casemiro had a fantastic debut season for Man United, there was a noticeable decline in the team’s performance when the Brazilian was unavailable due to suspensions.

Amrabat would bring an upgrade to the midfield compared to Scott McTominay and Fred, with his superior distribution, consistent pressing, and ability to control play from the centre of the pitch.

As United looks to part ways with Fred, the 26-year-old could be considered as a replacement in the first-team squad.
