Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has finally spoken out about Kylian Mbappe, who is currently in a contract dispute with the club and has been linked to Manchester United. Al-Khelaifi has delivered a strong message to the French forward.
The French superstar’s future at the capital is still uncertain as he has made it clear that he will not extend his contract next season.
This puts the Ligue 1 champions at the risk of losing him for free next summer if they fail to negotiate a sale before the end of the ongoing transfer window. Despite the club’s high asking price of over £250 million, interest in Mbappe has waned.
However, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, along with the PSG hierarchy, is resolute in their stance that the French striker will not depart without a transfer fee. They remain frustrated and angry with his contract decision. As stated by Fabrizio Romano, he said:
“Of course, we don’t want him to leave for free in 2024. Our position is clear. If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract.”
“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, it’s impossible. Mbappe has said that he will not leave for free. If he changed his mind, it is not my fault.”
There are reports suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain is actively seeking to sell Mbappe to a Premier League or La Liga team.
Man United have shown interest in entering the race to sign the French forward, as they continue their search for a striker after stepping back from pursuing Harry Kane. Also, a new takeover could further strengthen their chance to land the French superstar this summer.
Liverpool have also been linked with the 24-year-old player, who reportedly has a strong desire to join Real Madrid. However, PSG’s high asking price has thus far hindered any potential transfer from materializing.
