Manchester United interested in signing Portuguese star Joao Felix

According to ABC (page 46), Manchester United are among the clubs showing interest in securing the loan signing of Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix this summer.

The Red Devils were previously linked with the Portuguese attacker during the January transfer window but were hesitant to meet his parent club’s demands.

Consequently, Felix joined Chelsea on a short-term loan; however, he faced difficulties at the club, scoring four goals and providing no assists in 20 appearances.

ABC reports that Man United, Newcastle, and Aston Villa have contacted Joao Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, expressing interest in the player.

However, none of these clubs have approached Atletico Madrid for the 23-year-old forward. Atletico are not currently willing to sell him in the ongoing transfer window.

Felix’s market value has significantly decreased following his underwhelming loan spell at Chelsea. It is likely that Atletico will opt to send him out on a season-long loan instead. While Felix is attracted to the Premier League, he prefers to join a club competing in the Champions League.

In January, Chelsea secured the services of Felix from Atletico Madrid, paying a substantial loan fee of €11 million (£9.4 million) while covering his weekly wages of £240,000 until June 30.

Despite a promising start, which included an eventful debut against Fulham that ended in a red card, Felix’s contributions of four goals in 20 games did not justify the significant £15 million fee paid to Atletico.

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as Chelsea’s manager, the decision was made not to pursue Felix for a permanent transfer.

Consequently, United should avoid pursuing his services during the current transfer window. Atletico Madrid could potentially demand a fee of £15-20 million for a loan move, with the player’s salary being covered.
