Erik ten Hag explains reason behind signing Rasmus Hojlund over Harry Kane

Aa stated by the Daily Mail, Erik ten Hag has admitted that Manchester United are happy with securing Rasmus Hojlund, despite the imminent transfer of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

While there were strong speculations linking United to a potential move for Tottenham’s Kane, it appears that the financial demands led them to reconsider pursuing other targets.

Ten Hag holds great admiration for the 30-year-old and has openly praised the England captain. Nevertheless, he chose to approve a £72 million deal for the 20-year-old Hojlund instead.

With Bayern poised to secure Kane’s signing for an upfront fee of approximately £100 million, the topic was brought up with Ten Hag.

When questioned about his perspective on Kane’s transfer, Ten Hag commented to reporters on Friday:

“First of all, we have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice. “[Kane] is a great striker, clear, a goal maker and apart from that he has all the conditions and abilities that you want to see in a striker.”

“It’s a miss for the Premier League, absolutely. We want to challenge and play the best,” he said. “I don’t think that I have to go into that discussion [about why United didn’t sign Kane] or give an opinion about that.”

Kane is all set to be unveiled as the new Bayern Munich player after the German club completed the deal to sign him.

Ten Hag will need to be patient before he can utilize his newly acquired striker, as Hojlund is presently sidelined due to a back injury.
