According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are reportedly considering making an unexpected move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Red Devils have faced a challenging start to the season, enduring seven losses in various competitions, with five occurring in the Premier League.
United’s defensive performance has been less than satisfactory, partly due to injuries, and they can’t afford any more setbacks if they aim to secure a top-four spot.
In light of this, reports suggest that the English giants may look to acquire a new centre-back in the January transfer window, with Chalobah being a potential target.

While Juventus have also expressed interest in the youngster, it’s suggested that United could make a decent investment to add another defender to Erik ten Hag’s squad.
The club intends to convince the Chelsea academy graduate to stay in the Premier League. The Blues are also open to selling Chalobah for a fee in the region of €51 million (£45 million).
Man United initially had ambitious plans to secure a top-tier central defender in the summer transfer window. However, these plans changed when Harry Maguire opted to stay at the club.
Hence, they opted to bring in Jonny Evans on a free transfer. However, bringing in Chalobah would be a valuable addition to increase competition in the squad.
He has performed admirably whenever he’s featured for Chelsea, particularly impressing with his passing and defensive abilities.

The primary concern with the player is his ongoing injury problems. The 24-year-old has been out of action since the preseason due to a thigh injury and has experienced a setback in his recovery process.
Given these circumstances, it seems unlikely that United will make a £45m investment in him. A more practical approach for the club would be to pursue a short-term loan deal with the option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
