Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is in a position to set a Premier League record in the upcoming away game against Luton Town on Sunday.
Despite waiting until December to score his first league goal for United, the Danish international has been in excellent form, finding the net in his next four top-flight appearances.
As per the club’s official website, Hojlund has now become the youngest player to score in five consecutive English Premier League matches since Nicolas Anelka, who accomplished this feat with Arsenal in 1998.
If the youngster scores at Kenilworth Road on Sunday, he will set a new record as the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive PL games, surpassing Joe Willock’s achievement.
Willock, currently with Newcastle United, achieved this milestone at the age of 21 years and 272 days while on loan from Arsenal to Newcastle.
Hojlund’s surge in form under Erik ten Hag at Man United
In his inaugural season with Man United, the 20-year-old experienced a varied performance. While he managed to score five goals in the Champions League, none of these contributed to a victory for the club.
The player, valued at £56 million, faced difficulties in scoring during 14 league games, but he finally ended the goal drought by securing the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in December.
Since then, the striker has been in impressive form, scoring five goals in his last six appearances. Currently on a five-game scoring streak in the league, he has the opportunity to break the record on Sunday.
Although facing Luton away cannot be underestimated, given the home advantage, Rob Edwards’ side is known for conceding chances.
