As they try to strengthen their defensive options, Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing young left-back Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth. The Hungarian who is 20 years old has been mentioned as a possible rival and backup for Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw made just 12 Premier League appearances due to injuries that plagued his season. United has been looking for a dependable backup since Shaw’s muscular injury kept him out of action since February. Red Devils scouts are taking notice of Kerkez because of his outstanding performances for Bournemouth.
Kerkez though has established himself in the Premier League very quickly and Bournemouth is expected to demand a high price for him. At a sum not yet disclosed, the Hungarian international signed with the Cherries in 2023 from AZ Alkmaar.
He has since made 33 appearances across all competitions which has greatly aided Bournemouth’s season-long 12th-place result in the league. Prior to joining AZ Alkmaar Kerkez was a member of AC Milan’s youth academy. During his first full season he made an instant impression at AZ, helping the Dutch team finish fourth.

Additionally, he was crucial to AZ’s progression to the Europa Conference League semifinals in 2023 where they lost to West Ham, the eventual winners of the competition. In the global arena, Kerkez has also achieved notable progress. Appearing in Hungary’s Euro 2024 squad, he will play in the group stage matches this June against Switzerland, Germany and Scotland.
At the age of 17, Kerkez made his debut for his country on the international scene. Since then he has earned 14 caps demonstrating his potential on both the club and international stages. Top teams like Manchester United are showing an increasing amount of interest in Kerkez but he is still focused on his current obligations.
“I am not occupied with transfer news, the people who take care of me, deal with all of that” he said in response to transfer rumors that surrounded him in an April 2024 interview with BBC Radio Solent. “ I have only Bournemouth and my performances here on my mind ” . Kerkez is a desirable prospect for United because of his dedicated development and mature outlook.
