Manchester United Get Branthwaite Boost After Euros Omission

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite has been omitted from England’s 26-man squad travelling to Germany for the Euros 2024 this month.

The Red Devils are now free to make an approach for the 21-year-old considering the fact that they won’t face any hindrance from Gareth Southgate.

The Everton centre-back was initially named in the 33-man provisional squad for the Euros but was then removed from the list as Southgate revealed his final list.

Along with Branthwaite, United senior defender Harry Maguire was also surprisingly left out due to a calf injury. The former captain will return to the club’s training facility for further recovery.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions manager preferred to keep Liverpool’s Jarrad Quansah even if Jarrad Branthwaite had a superior season.

Quansah had also been omitted from the list but was told to remain with the national side as a replacement option.

However, the Toffees defender will be disappointed for missing out on playing an important International competition.

Southgate mentioned that it would be too early for the youngster and he also claimed that it will not be a right call to have a left-footed centre-back even if it’s an ideal option.

Man United have the chance to open talks with Branthwaite’s representatives fourth weeks earlier than expected. The England manager made it clear that no transfer talks will take place while his players are performing in the Euros.

But, Erik ten Hag’s side can now approach Everton and the player for a deal. The Toffees are expected to demand £80 million for their priced asset.

Branthwaite signed a new contract with the Premier League side last October but Everton might be forced to sell him in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play Rules.

The English defender had a wonderful season playing 41 games as a regular CB. United are expected to sign a midfielder and a striker as well and the fans expect that things might look a bit different for the club under new owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe this summer.
