Manchester United legend Roy Keane has admitted that new club signing Harry Maguire still has a few things to tweak in his game to become a proper defender for the Red Devils.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer inherited a team that was struggling defensively last season and the Norwegian decided that he needed to make a splash in order to ensure that he has the right personnel in his backline. The 46-year-old manager then broke the bank to secure the services of England center-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City in a world record transfer fee of £80 million.
But in a short spell, Maguire’s arrival hasn’t seemed to have improved United’s defense already as Manchester United have accumulated only five points out of a possible 12 so far in the opening four games of the Premier League season. And United have conceded goals in their last three games with Maguire failing to marshal a defense to keep a clean sheet despite starting all games so far.
Former United midfielder Roy Keane has stated that he is slightly worried about the 26-year old by highlighting the two areas that Maguire can improve in. While speaking to ITV, former Ireland and Manchester United captain was asked about whether he has been impressed by Maguire to which he replied, “I think he’s done OK. We were talking about how good he is on the ball, but defensively I still think he’s… I still have one or two question marks over him. I always worry about his pace on the turn. I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace where he’s not doing the basics, covering round his other center-half. Listen, he’s 26 years of age now, you’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him.”
