Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has explained that he deserved to be sacked last year and he is not enjoying the current slump the club is going through at the moment.
The Portuguese boss was appointed back in the summer of 2016 and helped Manchester United to win the League Cup as well as the Europa League in his debut season but following a poor run of form last season in the opening part of the season, Mourinho was sacked by the Manchester United board.
The football grew dire and boring at Manchester United as even the fans were on his back asking for him to be sacked. With no desire and results the writing was on the wall for Mourinho and Liverpool landed the final nail in the coffin with a 3-1 win over the Red Devils in December which led to Mourinho’s axing.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as his replacement and as a permanent manager after impressing in his initial few weeks as a caretaker but the Norwegian is experiencing a tough situation at the moment. Solskjaer has come under pressure after United lost another game in the Premier League following a 2-0 loss against West Ham United leaving them 10 points behind Liverpool at the top of the table.
Now as a pundit on Sky Sports, Mourinho was asked about the problems at Manchester United to which he responded by saying he is not the right person to answer because he was once sacked by the club during their difficult time, “I’m not the right person to answer it. They are far behind. It’s difficult for me to answer. I was there for two seasons where I could feel lots of positive things and I could feel the direction to go in, then obviously the third season was not good enough. I was sacked, I probably deserved to be sacked because I was responsible as the manager, but the sad reality is that they are worse than before. And for me, that is a sad thing. Maybe people think I’m enjoying the situation but I’m not enjoying it at all.”
