Former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has slammed Argentine defender Marcos Rojo after he failed to pick up Adam Lallana at the back post in the 1-1 draw against fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester United have endured their worst season ever since the start of the Premier League era they notching up only 10 points from their opening nine games of the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job was under threat but it seems that the Norwegian has brought himself some valuable time after a rather impressive 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside giants visited Old Trafford on Sunday but the red half of Manchester managed to end their bitter rivals’ 17 game win streak. English striker Marcus Rashford put the hosts in front controversially after a foul was adjudged on Liverpool forward Divock Origi in the buildup to the lead. Although referee Mark Atkinson allowed the goal to stand after VAR’s check, Liverpool struck late through Adam Lallana in the second half to salvage a point and remain unbeaten in England’s top flight.
The versatile English midfielder was subbed on by Liverpool boss Klopp and tucked in from close range after Andrew Robertson’s cross from the left-hand side of the pitch. Marcos Rojo was initially marking the 31-year-old Lallana but allowed him to sneak in behind the defense for the equalizing goal.
The only reason Rojo started the game was because of an injury to Axel Tuanzebe in the training before the kick-off but Giggs blamed the 29-year old for his poor decision making. Even £50 million summers signing from Crystal Palace Aaron Wan Bissaka come under the radar for allowing Robertson time and space to cross the ball.
While speaking to news outlet Optus Sport, the former Wales midfielder slated right Wan Bissaka as well as Rojo, but claimed that Wan Bissaka still needs some game time to return to his best, “[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka has not played a lot of games, maybe if he was a little bit fitter and sharper he would have got out quicker, But for Rojo to actually go past [Harry] Maguire is strange. If he holds his position maybe he can clear it. Ash [Young] never really gets goal-side but if you watch Rojo, he just anticipates where the ball is going to be instead of staying with his man.”
