Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of welcoming back either Paul Pogba or Scott McTominay from injury for the Premier League showdown with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur team at Old Trafford.
The midfield duo of Pogba and McTominay was absent from the team during Sunday’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Aston Villa at the Theatre Of Dreams.
World Cup-winning French midfield star Pogba has been sidelined with an ankle injury since September with, while Scottish midfielder McTominay hurt his ankle in the win over Brighton and Hove Albion just prior to the latest international break.
And now the Red Devils will welcome a familiar adversary in Jose Mourinho later on this week. The 56-year-old reportedly had a falling out with the 26-year-old Pogba prior to his sacking in December last year and returned to management with Tottenham last month.
Results and performances have been positive for the North London giants since Mourinho’s appointment but Solskjaer is hopeful that his midfield duo could return for the crunch game against Spurs.
While speaking to reporters the 46-year-old Norwegian said that Pogba and McTominay are working hard behind the scenes and there are still two days remaining for the game, “We have still got two days and we need to look at everyone here as well, We have only got two days, so let’s see, but, hopefully, we can see one of them on the pitch. They are working hard behind the scenes.”
The red half of Manchester are currently languishing in ninth position on the Premier League table, two points behind fifth-placed Spurs, who have won both of their Premier League matches since Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.
