Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he would not accept complacency from his team in a seemingly straightforward League Cup quarter-final tie against League Two opposition Colchester United.
The Red Devils have an excellent chance to move within a single match of a shot at winning silverware when fourth-tier outfit Colchester visit Old Trafford on Wednesday.
On their journey to the quarter-finals of the competition, Colchester stunned Crystal Palace and Tottenham but their head coach John McGreal admitted that the underdogs need a “large slice” of luck to continue their run to progress further into the competition.
United boss Solskajer is expected to make a few changes to his starting eleven following the 1-1 draw against Everton but warned his players against dipping below expectations of the fans and the club as a whole.
While speaking to MUTV, the 46 years old Norwegian explained that when a player puts on a Manchester United jersey, there must be no complacency in their head especially when there is a chance at reaching the semifinal, “When you put that Manchester United shirt on, complacency should not be in your head. And when there are a semi-final and a potential final there at stake, of course, you have got to go out there and start brightly, start quickly, get your goals and then hopefully get through.”
Solskjaer further explained the reason why Colchester should not be taken lightly despite the game being held at Old Trafford, “We are at home but, of course, this is a team that has knocked out Tottenham and Crystal Palace, so there is no way we are going to take them lightly. Even though we are favorites and big favorites, we know you have to go out there, perform, create chances and score goals. We hope to do so.”
