Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has labeled Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as “the best team in England” after the Red Devils were drawn to face their fierce local rivals in the League Cup semi-final.
The red half of Manchester claimed a 3-0 win over League Two opponents Colchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday in their quarter-final to get book their place in the next round of the tournament.
Solskjaer’s team managed to record an upset in a 2-1 derby victory over Manchester City in the Premier League earlier in December and the two Manchester teams are set to battle again across two legs in January in the League Cup.
Having won two back-to-back Premier League titles with record points over the past two terms, Pep Guardiola’s City team are also the holders of the League Cup, but the blue side of Manchester are off the pace in the Premier League this season as Liverpool lead the title race.
However, the 46-year-old Norwegian has admitted that Manchester City is still the best team in the country, Solskjaer explained that he will look to cause problems for the current Premier League champions, “[They will be] fantastic days in Manchester. They’re the best team in England and we’re confident going into the semi-final, Of course, we do really respect them and, as I said after the derby last time, in my opinion, they are the best team in England. They can out-football you so we need to get our game heads on and be ready for them again. But we’ve shown them that we can cause them problems. I think they will be two fantastic games.”
