Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that 2020 can be a year of personal success as he attempts to deliver his first trophies controlling the reigns at the club.
The Red Devils end the Year 2019 in fifth place on the Premier League table, following their 2-0 win at Turf Moor against Burnley leaving them four points away from the top four.
The relatively comfortable win against the Clarets concluded quite a turbulent decade for the Red half of Manchester, in which they have appointed four permanent managers but failed to win the domestic title ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in the summer of 2013.
This current Manchester United side has been frustratingly inconsistent this season under Solskjaer, but they have managed to win six of their past eight games in all competitions and head into the New Year with the opportunity of winning the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Europa League.
However, Solskjaer striker thinks that his young team is getting closer to the identity he wants to see and remains fully confident that the coming decade will see the club restored to the summit of English football.
Ahead of Manchester United’s trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal, the 46-year-old explained that he wants a good year for himself and United admitting that the club is in a transitional phase, “I’m going to make 2020 a good year for myself, I think we’re on the right track. We are in a transitional period – we’ve seen other clubs do it and come out stronger after a couple of years. We will come strong this decade, definitely. That’s just in the nature of this club.
Solskjaer further added that his team is still improving and his players in the team are getting used to one another, “We’re improving, and I think we can see more and more of what we want to be and our identity, what we’re good at. We’re making games suit our style more and more. We’ve played the same way for a little while, and we’re getting used to each other. We’re quite a bit away still from where we want to be, but I think we’re the youngest team in the Premier League this week. We’ll have ups and downs, but there’ll be less and less and less, hopefully, of the downs.”
