Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he was satisfied with his team’s display in the FA Cup clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite United not even able to muster a shot on target in the 0-0 draw at the Molineux Stadium.
A replay will be required to decide which of the two sides will go through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after neither team was able to conjure a winning goal in Saturday’s encounter, which only came to life in the final 20 minutes of the game.
The Red Devils brought on English forward Marcus Rashford in the second half and the substitute hit the crossbar moments after coming on before Wolves defender Matt Doherty had a goal correctly disallowed for handball, while Raul Jimenez saw his effort rattle against the woodwork for the hosts.
United ultimately hung on to take the tie back to Old Trafford without managing a shot on target in a domestic match for the first time ever since January 2015, but Solskjaer was still pleased with the level of their performance despite the result and another game to play.
In his post-match interview, the 46-year-old Norwegian told reporters that he would have preferred an FA Cup replay rather than being thrown out of the competition, “I’d rather have a replay than be out of the cup. We knew coming here was difficult but we’re still in the hat and at home, there’s a little bit more chance of going through,”
He further explained that the Molineaux Stadium is a difficult place to come and play football and his team played well in the first half, “It always is [tough] when you come to Molineux. I thought we played well in the first half, dominated possession but then they took over in the second half, which made it an even tougher game.”
