Manchester United is known for its greatness and reputation both in the Premier League and in Europe.
They are renowned for having great players at the club with an exceptional personality to lead the team as captain on the pitch. This has seen the likes of Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, and Wayne Rooney fit the bill in recent times at the club.
The Old Trafford side has been captained by Ashley Young who left for Inter Milan in January but he’s been replaced by former Leicester City star defender Harry Maguire.
Despite this appointment, Paul Pogba should have been offered the chance to wear the captain armband at Manchester United as we evaluate the three reasons why this should have been so.
HIS INFLUENCE AT THE CLUB
The French star has been a good addition to the Manchester United side while being an influential figure on the pitch at his best. He’s an amazing player to be as he’s got the knack to put his teammate in a good mood.
Pogba’s sense of humour has seen him easily get along in the United group as he’s got good self-esteem as an individual player.
He has made an impact in the dressing room thus uniting the playing group with his charisma and dexterity of oratory as the case may be.
This could see him lead by example as his joking attitude has endeared him to his teammates more like it would have been ideal if he was made the captain for the club.
HE’S UNITED’S BEST
Manchester United is known for the caliber of players they have always got in the ranks but the French man arguably stands above the rest. This is notable especially as Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku have left the club to join Inter Milan.
The former may not match Pogba’s significance at the club despite his reputation as a successful player for Arsenal and FC Barcelona.
Though the Red Devils may have got special players in the mix like Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, and Nemanja Matic.
However, Pogba class could present him as United’s best player on his day not even minding the statement that Marcus Rashford and the new acquisition Bruno Fernandes has made already at the club this term. This could have given him an edge of honour as far as the club is concerned.
PLAYERS RETAINATION/SECURING PLAYERS FUTURE
Despite the injury to the French World Cup winner, the player Paul Pogba is still the subject of several transfer interests which is making the rounds at the moment.
Giving the midfield player the captain armband would be an added responsibility to Pogba. This could see the player become willing to stay further at the club at least for another season.
This would see him forming an interesting partnership with Bruno Fernandes in midfield. It may also serve as a good strategy to weaken the club interested in his services as a call for leadership is a genuine call to service.
Being a captain is a call for duty and it would give Paul Pogba the effrontery to assert his heartfelt authority on the pitch at Manchester United. This could be the case as several clubs are lining up for his signature including his former club Juventus.
Even charismatic manager Jose Mourinho said that Pogba could go on to become a legend and a captain at the club for many years.
This was based on Paul’s interesting quality due to the positive euphoria he could bring to the side as he’s got the knack for leadership in him.
