Odion Ighalo’s loan extension at Manchester United FC confirmed

On-loan Manchester United FC striker Odion Ighalo has agreed on a loan extension with the Premier League club, which will see him stay at Old Trafford until the end of January 2021.

The original agreement between the Red Devils and Ighalo’s parent club Shanghai Shenhua was set to expire on 31st May, with the Chinese club wanting their player to return in time for the start of the Chinese Super League, which is set to get underway in June.

However, the Manchester United FC board and club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær were very keen on keeping the striker until the remainder of the current Premier League season, which will resume on 17th June.

Ighalo has put in a series of impressive performances for the Red Devils, since signing on loan for them earlier this year. The Nigerian striker has scored four times in eight appearances for the club, whom he had described as his dream club while growing up. Ighalo was gearing up for some more terrific performances in the United shirt before the Premier League season was halted due to the massive outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in England.

The player’s agent Atta Aneke had recently confirmed speculation that talks were going on between the Red Devils and Shanghai for extending Ighalo’s stay at the Premier League club until the end of the current campaign.

Moreover, the Nigerian had himself made a plea to his parent club, urging them to allow him to finish the current season at Old Trafford, as he seeks to win a trophy to cap off his dream move.

With Ighalo’s stay extended at Manchester United FC, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has a great attacking option to field upfront for the United side, who will aim to challenge for a UEFA Champions League spot, when the Premier League resumes shortly. With Marcus Rashford also nearing full fitness, Solskjær will no doubt be delighted at the attacking options at his disposal ahead of next season.
