Manchester United FC are reportedly closing in on a deal for Mexican striker after the player’s current side Wolves believed to be reducing their asking price for the player to just £18m.
Many clubs are interested in signing Jimenez, who has enjoyed a terrific run of form this season while playing for the Premier League side Wolves. And Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received a significant boost in his desire to sign Jimenez for his side with Wolves now planning to sell their star player for a lower price when the transfer window reopens.
The Red Devils have on the hunt for a clinical striker to replace their former player Romelu Lukaku, who departed the Manchester United FC side for Inter Milan last year. With the Premier League side having managed to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan deal and keeping the Nigerian striker at the club until January 2021, Solskjaer was keen on acquiring a prolific goal scorer for the current Manchester United FC squad, and it turns out Jimenez fits the bill.
Jimenez has had an incredible season at Wolves this year. The Mexican international has scored 22 goals and provided ten assists in 44 appearances in all competitions in the current season. The player’s superb performances have helped Wolves sit sixth in the Premier League table and compete for a Champions League spot when the restart of the Premier League gets underway.
Jimenez’s current contract with Wolves runs until 2023. However, this has not stopped several top clubs such as Liverpool FC and PSG to enquire about the player’s availability for a summer transfer.
The player had himself stated his desire to play for the top European teams in the coming time. Moreover, it had been reported that Jimenez had turned down a very lucrative offer in the region of £7m-a-year to play in the Chinese Super League and explained his motive of playing in a top-six Premier League team soon.
Manchester United FC are positioned fifth in the current Premier League table, just one point ahead of Wolves as both sides would look forward to challenging each other for a Champions League spot.
