Manchester United FC are confident of securing the signing of coveted midfielder Donny van de Beek from Dutch champions Ajax.
The 23-year old Van de Beek has been a long-term target of Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, who has tried to sign the Dutch international on several occasions from Ajax.
However, it seems that the Red Devils have leapfrogged the Los Blancos in their approach to sign Van de Beek with Manchester United FC manager Olen Gunnar Solskjaer believed to be wanting to improve his current options in midfield.
Former Manchester United FC goalkeeping legend and the current Chief Executive Officer of Ajax, Edwin van der Saar has confirmed that there has been interest from his former side in securing a transfer for Van de Beek in the summer. Moreover, Van der Sar also added that Real Madrid are still in the race to sign the Dutch international and have established contact with the Ajax management over a possible deal.
Donny van de Beek is the one of Ajax’s last remaining young talents who took the Dutch side to the semi-finals of the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League season.
Ajax narrowly missed out on reaching the finals of the competition due to a heartbreaking loss suffered by them to Tottenham Hotspurs. However, the Dutch side has won the Eredivisie in the past two seasons and have established a fantastic squad. Even with the departures of world-class talents Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt last summer, Van de Beek has stayed put with the Amsterdam based club and displayed impressive performances for them this season.
The player has appeared in 37 competitive matches for Ajax in the current campaign and has contributed ten goals and 11 assists.
Signing Van de Beek would be a huge boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ahead of the start of next season. The Red Devils squad has already been ignited by new signing Bruno Fernandes and the possible arrival of Van de Beek would add to the squad’s firepower. The question mark on Paul Pogba’s future stay at Old Trafford is another factor which will determine Van de Beek moving to England and playing in the Manchester United FC colours.
