Manchester United 3-0 Sheffield United Match Report | EPL 19-20

Manchester United put three goals past a fragile Sheffield United at Old Trafford. The Red Devils played for the first time at Old Trafford since March, and they didn’t disappoint. Antony Martial scored his first senior career hat-trick as United cruised past the Blades.

The Blades have been struggling post the pandemic break and put up a dismal show against a rampant United side. Manchester United fielded their best possible side, with Pogba starting for the first time after almost 10 months. On the other hand, Sheffield have been struggling through injury and disciplinary issues and put out an ageing and mediocre side.

Manchester United FC struck early with Martial, in the seventh minute, from a Rashford cross. From then onwards United didn’t look back. The Red Devils looked in complete control over the entirety of the match.

Pogba, Bruno, and Matic looked to be a perfect midfield trio and controlled the tempo of the game. However, Rashford looked a bit rusty as he squandered a couple of chances, one being an empty net. United played well against a side that had no potential attacking threat and also didn’t feature their best player, Dean Henderson.

Martial scored his second in the 44th minute via a low Wan Bissaka cross from the right. His third came in the 77th minute, from an intricate play at the edge of the box, involving him, Bruno, and Rashford. This was Anthony Martial’s first senior-level hat-trick, and the first scored by a United player after Robin Van Persie in 2013.

The main highlight of the match was Pogba and how he controlled the midfield. The French midfielder looks hungry as he had a scintillating performance at the heart of the midfield. He produced magic when he skipped past 3 players on the edge of the box only for Martial to shoot wide.

Although the win was against a weak Sheffield side, this will do the players a world of good. Manchester United have a streak of easy games in the league now, and this win could help instil confidence in the team. The Red Devils are now unbeaten for 12 games across all competitions, and the team looks in great shape.
