Manchester United FC will be reportedly in search of a striker in the summer transfer window. Despite the goals from Rashford, Martial and Ighalo’s contract extension, the Red Devils will look to get a long-term striker. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to strengthen his attacking department, this summer transfer market.
Martial and Rashford have each scored 19 goals this season, scoring 14 each in the Premier League. Both the strikers have come good this season, and are in the top-10 scorers in the league. They complement each other well and bounce off one another and are eager to prove their worth to the world.
Ighalo was signed by Ole in the January transfer market, as a replacement for the injured Rashford. Ighalo has been very effective, especially in the cup competitions, and has been rewarded with an extension till January 2021. Since he has come in, Ighalo has scored five goals and has set up in 11 appearances for Manchester United.
Surprisingly for some, Mason Greenwood has done superbly great in his debut season. The talented teenage striker has played down the right-wing this season and has produced the goods when called upon. Greenwood has scored a total of 12 goals this season, taking United’s strikers’ combined tally of 55 goals this season.
Ole believes Greenwood will ultimately become Manchester United’s No.9, as he will get better with age. Despite all that, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be keen to get another central striker on board this summer. There are a host of players United are linked to as usual, but the most relevant has been Dembele of Lyon.
Moussa Dembele is a 23-year old French striker who plays for Olympique Lyon in Ligue 1. Dembele is one of the best strikers in the league, scoring 16 goals in 27 appearances this season in Ligue 1. Dembele has scored a total of 22 goals and has set up seven more in 42 games for Lyon this season.
The strong Frenchman will add a different dimension to Manchester United’s centre-forward options. He is very strong in the air and is good at holding up the ball and waiting for his teammates to join in. Dembele also belongs to the age-bracket of players Solskjaer is looking for but won’t be available for cheap.
As United look to exploit the market in the post-pandemic period, it will be interesting to see who they can conjure up. There are also other options available in the market for centre-forward position with Aubameyang, Cavani, and Milik all on the move. Only time will tell who the Red Devils will get to bolster the striker’s department.
