Manchester United FC player Alexis Sanchez was sent on loan at Inter Milan at the start of the season. His high wage demands and poor performances at Old Trafford meant that Solskjaer had to find a way to cut losses. Sanchez’s time at Milan has also been plagued with injuries, but reportedly the Milan club wants to sign him permanently.
Alexis Sanchez was one of the Premier League’s top earners at Manchester United but produced little on the pitch. The Chilean never found his feet at United and seemed to be a shadow of himself. Sanchez has scored only 5 goals in 45 appearances for Manchester United after being brought from Arsenal.
At Inter Milan also he was out with injuries for a large chunk of time and was ineffective in the pitch due to lack of game-time. Sanchez, though, has lately been good in matches and has played well after the restart. He has shown glimpses of his former self against Juventus and has scored one and set up two more against Brescia.
His loan was extended till the end of the Serie-A season, as United didn’t want to strengthen Inter’s attacking line. Inter Milan are also looking to win the Europa League and stand as direct competitors to Manchester United. But now, it is reported that Inter want to buy Sanchez permanently, with a transfer fee of about £18m.
Manchester United have been desperate to get Sanchez off their books, and this interest from Inter will please the board. It was difficult to offload Sanchez mainly due to his high wage demands and dismal performances for the Red Devils. But with Inter wanting to sign Sanchez, his transfer might fund the incoming of a new player at United.
Inter Milan have only two strikers, Lukaku and Lautaro, other than Alexis, thus Milan manager Conte wants to bolster his attack. The Italian Serie-A is a slow league and Sanchez can get back to his old best with Inter Milan. Alexis is enjoying life at Inter Milan and wants to stay put in Italy to prove his critics wrong.
It was earlier reported that Solskjaer needed to sell few players first before buying new players. Sanchez was believed to be one amongst a host of players, the manager wants to get rid of at United. Inter’s offer will be great for all the parties involved and it seems United will finally get Sanchez off.
