Manchester United FC are reportedly in the lookout of a centre-back at the end of the season to partner Harry Maguire. The Red Devils have been linked to the likes of Skriniar, Koulibaly and Nathan Ake, and might prefer a left footed centre-back. Reportedly, United have submitted a €65m bid for Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan to secure his services.
When Solskjaer was asked about his interest in defenders this season, he said he didn’t need anymore and had seven centre-backs. But with the imminent exit of Smalling, Rojo and Jones, the Red Devils look destined to get a centre back this window. And when it comes to centre-backs, there are only a few better than Skriniar in the world.
The 25-year old has been a rock at the back for the Inter Milan side and has earned plaudits. The Slovakian is very strong, puts in good tackles and has great passing ability, all of which will complement with Maguire’s qualities. But, the Slovakian has lost his place under Conte’s three-man at the back system, and Inter are ready to cash in.
Skriniar has been linked to a move to United but had recently put pen to paper for a new deal with Inter. With Conte at the helm, Skriniar has seen game-time hard to come by and Inter don’t consider him unsellable anymore. Thus, Inter have decreased his asking price to make sure they can offload the centre-back to generate funds for recruits.
The Red Devils will themselves be looking to do the same and will be looking to cash-in on several players. Reportedly, Chris Smalling’s deal has been agreed between Manchester United and AS Roma, as the Romans want to sign Smalling permanently. Marcus Rojo is also reportedly on his way to his native Argentina after being there from January, on-loan.
Victor Lindelof has been good with Maguire at centre-back, but United are aiming at Premier League and European success. Thus, the Red Devils will need to get another top-notch centre-back with Harry Maguire to improve their already-good defensive record. Coming summer we will be able to see if United get the Skriniar deal over the line or if he stay at San Siro.
