Manchester United 1-1 West Ham Match Report | EPL 2019/20

Manchester United FC move to third place in the Premier League table with a 1-1 draw against West Ham FC, at Old Trafford. The Hammers scored first with Michail Antonio from the penalty spot after a Paul Pogba handed the ball in the penalty box. Greenwood equalized for United as the Red Devils were only able to get a point against the resolute Hammers.

Solskjaer made only one change to the side hat played against Crystal Palace as Brandon Williams replaced Aaron Wan Bissaka. Fosu-Mensah retained his place in the side but played in his favourite right-back spot as Williams played on the left. United started the game well with a couple of intricate passes leading to shots, but couldn’t threaten Fabianski in the West Ham goal.

The Red Devils dominated the first half with a lot of possession as West Ham sat back and defended deep. Martial and Greenwood conjured up a couple of shots but didn’t do enough to bother West Ham. As the half progressed, West Ham tried to hit United with their pace and power upfront with Michail Antonio.

The Hammer attacked most from their right flank with Bowen causing issues for Brandon Williams. West Ham finally got their chance as Fosu-Mensah committed a foul 20 yards from the goal. From the awarded freekick, West Ham got a penalty as Pogba handled the ball in the penalty area, and scored with Michail Antonio on the cusp of half-time.

The Red Devils responded well though, as Greenwood scored his 17th goal for United this season, in the 51st minute of the game. From then on, United slowed the game up and looked casual and lazy on the ball, giving away possession cheaply. Pogba and Matic were culprits of taking too much time on the ball and Rashford wasn’t on song tonight.

United are now placed third in the league table and are now just one point away from Champions League football next season. The Red Devils play Leicester City, who are level on points with United, on the last day of the Premier League season. United will only need a draw against Leicester to secure a spot in the top-four of the Premier League.
