Manchester United FC are reportedly looking for a central defensive midfielder this summer transfer window, even after renewing Matic’s contract. The Red Devils are keen on bolstering the position as Matic is the only reliable option they have. United have reportedly made contact with PSG for their midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, and are interested to secure his signature this window.
Nemanja Matic recently signed a contract that will keep him at the club till 2023, but age is not on the 31-year olds side. The Slovakian has done well since January but has shown signs of fatigue from the last couple of games. Matic doesn’t have the pace he once had and has completely lost his legs due to his age.
Thus United are looking to get an agile defensive midfielder who could shield their defence as well as spray the ball. One such option is the Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye, who moved to PSG at the beginning of this season from Everton. Gueye was regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League before his move to Paris.
The Senegalese was brought to PSG as Marco Verrati’s replacement but hasn’t had a lot of game time. Idrissa Gueye has only been limited to 20 games this season in the Ligue-1 because of injuries in his groin and hamstring. But United are interested in getting him to bolster their defensive midfield ranks even though he is 30-years old.
Idrissa Gueye is reportedly happy with life in PSG, mainly because of the wages the Parisians give him, but PSG won’t mind selling him. PSG are keen on trimming down their squad as they have put Ander Herrera and Julian Draxler up for sale. The Parisians will happily sell Idrissa Gueye if they get a good offer for the Senegalese international.
Manchester United are almost sure of getting a midfielder this transfer window and have been linked to several other names like Grealish and Kondogbia. Signing Idrissa Gueye might be a short-term signing because of his age, but might seriously increase the potential of the Red Devils. Only time will tell which midfielder will United get this summer transfer window.
