Manchester United FC might finally have a chance to get Kalidou Koulibaly to Old Trafford and partner him with Harry Maguire. The Napoli man has been linked with a move to either of the Manchester clubs this summer transfer window. It is reported that Napoli have dropped down their valuation of Koulibaly from £80m to £65m, which will a boost for the Red Devils.
Kalidou Koulibaly has been a mainstay at the centre-back position for Napoli for the past three-four seasons. With Napoli, the Senegalese international has turned to be a beast in defence and one of the best defenders in the world. Manchester City, Barcelona and Manchester United are all interested in getting his signature, but the Manchester sides reportedly have the edge.
United have tried to lure Koulibaly to the red half of Manchester several times in the past couple of seasons. But the Red Devils’ interest has been blocked numerous times by the Napoli president, who claimed Koulibaly as unsellable. Due to the pandemic situation and Koulibaly’s interest in leaving Napoli, the president will probably look to sell him this transfer window.
Before getting Maguire, United reportedly saw a £90m bid for Koulibaly rejected by Napoli. Mourinho was also a huge fan of the defender and wanted Koulibaly in his United side, but Woodward didn’t approve of the defender. Now with his valuation having decreased from £80m to £65m, Woodward might try to correct his previous mistake.
Maguire and Lindelof have steadied the ship somewhat for the Red Devils, but to challenge for the Premier League, they will need a better centre-back pairing. Koulibaly might just be the answer for the Red Devils, but getting him won’t be easy. Guardiola and Manchester City are keen to get Koulibaly to steady their shaky defence and will look to fork out quite a lot of money.
It is no doubt that Koulibaly will improve whichever team he goes to, and walks into every team in the world. The Red Devils will try their level best to get Koulibaly to Old Trafford. The centre-back will surely enhance their chances of winning the Premier League and other European trophies.
