Manchester United FC are reportedly looking for a central defender to give competition or even replace to Lindelof at centre-back. After qualifying for Champions League last night, United will look to get their transfer activities done as soon as possible. The name that is now linked to the club is Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who plays for Lille in the Ligue-1.
Maguire and Lindelof have looked strong this season, but both the players lack speed and can be bothered by some quick players. United have looked into this issue very seriously and are reportedly in the lookout of a quick defender. The Red Devils have also reportedly drawn a 4-man shortlist of defenders that includes Skriniar, Koulibaly, Ake and Magalhaes.
Gabriel Magalhaes, 22-years old, has impressed United manager Solskjaer and several other Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal. Magalhaes has represented Brazil in his early days in the youth setup and is ready to make the step up. But signing the centre-half won’t be easy because of strong links connecting him to Napoli, along with team-mate Osimhen.
Gabriel is a left-footed player and plays predominantly as a left centre-back, a position that Solskjaer is keen on strengthening this summer transfer window. The Brazilian played 24 games in the Ligue-1 this season for the Lille side in which he has even scored once. Magalhaes also has Champions League experience as he played in all the six group stage games this season.
Magalhaes is also great in the air, as he has won a total of 95 aerial duels in the Ligue-1 this season. His speed, aerial prowess and ability to read the game make him one of the best prospects for Brazil. The Brazilian will surely add to United’s defensive strength and stability if he joins the club this summer.
With Champions League football next season, the United board will be motivated to get in the right players for the manager. The Red Devils will be etching to do well in the Premier League and Champions League next season. Only time will tell if Magalhaes joins United this season, as the transfer window opened earlier today.
