United’s transfer funds to be boosted by Zaha’s sale

Manchester United FC are reportedly looking forward to a massive squad overhaul, this summer and will thus need a lot of money. Their hopes have been rekindled due to the influx of money from Champions League next season. United will be even more encouraged as they have a sell-on clause in Wilfried Zaha’s contract, who is looking to move this summer.

Wilfried Zaha joined Manchester United in 2013 from Crystal Palace but was sold back to Eagles in 2015. When the Red Devils sold Zaha back to Crystal Palace, they had a sell-on clause inserted in his contract which could be useful later on. And that is exactly what will happen probably this summer as Zaha looks to move on.

Zaha has been Crystal Palace’s best player by far for the past three seasons, scoring and assisting left, right and centre. This season, Zaha has played all the matches for the Eagles, scoring four and assisting five goals in a rather dull season. Last season, Zaha scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace is a mediocre side that lies in the middle or in the lower half of the Premier League will ultimately need to sell Zaha. The Ivorian international wanted a move last summer as well but was priced out of a move to Arsenal. The Gunner rather signed Nicolas Pepe from Lille with almost the same price, but with a different payment structure.

The 27-year old winger had also handed a transfer request last season, but a move never materialized. Reportedly, Zaha wants to move on from Crystal Palace and wants to join a bigger club this transfer window. Palace have set a price tag of £70m for Zaha and with the sell-on clause, United will get 25% of the fee paid for Zaha.

If Crystal Palace manage to get £70m for Zaha, the Red Devils will get £17.5m from the Eagles. This money will be very helpful for United to bring in new players to the club. With the transfer market open for the next couple of months, United will count on Palace to sell Zaha on a higher transfer fee.
