Jorge Mendes trying to push through a deal for James Rodriguez

Manchester United FC have been looking to bolster their squad this summer transfer window, especially the depth in their midfield. The Red Devils have been linked to a host of different midfielders throughout the world, mostly falsely rumoured. It is now reported that super-agent Jorge Mendes is trying to push through a deal for James Rodriguez at Manchester United.

Jorge Mendes is a renowned name in the world of football and represents some big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez. Mendes also played a huge role in the signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January. He is also the agent who represented De Gea when he signed for the Red Devils but has recently stopped representing the goalkeeper though.

The super-agent has a good relationship with Ed Woodward and is trying to use it to get a deal for James Rodriguez. It was earlier reported that the Columbian midfielder had been offered to United, but Solskjaer vetoed a move. But Mendes hasn’t given up yet and has reportedly talked to Woodward about the prospect of signing Rodriguez.

The Red Devils wanted to sign the Columbian back in 2014, but he chose to join Real Madrid instead. But now, after six years of his move to Spain, James finds himself on the bench more often than not. His bitter relationship with Zidane has meant that he has been limited to only eight appearances in La Liga this season.

Overall, the 29-year old midfielder has played only 14 games for Real Madrid this season and only has one year left in his contract. James is seeking a move away and is reportedly assessing his options, and is considering United as a possible destination. The attacking midfielder looks far from a player he was in his best days but insists he still has got the fire.

United manager Solsjkaer has already denied Woodward of signing James and is confident in his decision. On the other hand, Mendes has promised a good destination for James and reportedly wants it to be Old Trafford. Though the midfielder will be available for only about £21m, it is unlikely for United to sign James Rodriguez.
