Antoine Griezmann open to a Premier League move

Talismanic Frenchman Antoine Griezmann might well be on the move again this summer after joining Barcelona last summer. Manchester United have been linked with Antoine Griezmann for long, and finally, the time might have come for Griezmann and United.  Griezmann has been a shadow of himself at Barcelona and wants to move on to the Premier League, it is reported.

Griezmann joined Barcelona last summer after spending 5 years at Atletico Madrid and become one of the world’s best. Griezmann is a mesmeric goal scorer and scored 133 goals in 257 matches for the Madrid-based side. Playing as a second striker, Greizmann also set up 50 more goals in that time.

At Barcelona, he has been shifted to the wings and hasn’t been given the license to create the play. The change in positioning has frantically changed his impact on the game and Griezmann has failed at Catalunya. He has only been able to score 14 goals and set up four more in 43 matches for Barcelona this season.

The La Liga title might have been decided when Barcelona played out a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid, earlier this week. Despite Barcelona’s lack of scoring and creating goals, Griezmann started on the bench against his former side. He played only two minutes against Atletico Madrid and everyone around him seems to be bamboozled by the fact.

The 29-year old Frenchman is seemingly unhappy and Barcelona and is reported open to a move to  the Premier League. The Manchester clubs are his preferable options as both the clubs will be able to fund his move and pay his wages. Manchester United have been linked to Griezmann prior to his move to Barcelona, and might again try to lure him.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the lookout of a striker and Griezmann might be lured to join the Red Devils. Pogba is good friends with Griezmann and their link-up is world-class, as seen at the World Cup for France. The only obstacles to his transfer to United might be his age and the fees demanded by Barcelona.

Griezmann only moved to Barcelona a year ago for £107m, and the Catalunya side will ask for a similar amount. With the pandemic situation, United will be unwilling to spend such a metronomic amount. But if they somehow manage to get Griezmann, the Red Devils will be favourites to challenge for titles next season.
