Ajax manager Erik ten Hag completes interview with Manchester United

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has completed an interview with Erik ten Hag as the club continues its hunt for a permanent manager.

The Ajax manager has conducted talks with the Premier League club over the vacant role, with Ten Hag emerging as a favourite to take over at Old Trafford.

Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, and Julen Lopetegui are among the contenders on Manchester United’s shortlist, however Thomas Tuchel is not regarded an accessible choice despite the uncertainty regarding his future at Chelsea.

Whether or not he is chosen as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor, Erik Ten Hag remains the favourite for the job. As things stand, he is expected to leave Ajax this summer.

With his work at Ajax, the 52-year-old has impressed the Red Devils’ management, winning two Eredivisie titles and leading the team to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

Ten Hag’s rebuilding of that team following the departure of key players like as Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong has earned him huge admiration from Manchester United, as has his faith in youth and appealing style of play.

Ajax will not stand in Ten Hag’s way if he is offered the job, despite the fact that the coach is under contract with the club until 2023. Given the presence of former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar as chief executive at Ajax, the two sides are believed to have a close working relationship.

A compensation fee of roughly £4 million is expected, and the two sides are believed to have a close working relationship.
