According to the Mirror, Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho could be out for a lengthy spell after suffering an ankle injury against Southampton.
On Sunday, Kyle Walker-Peters made a forceful challenge on the 18-year-old in the box, and the young Argentine was clearly in pain. After obtaining treatment, Garnacho was able to continue.
Still, manager Erik ten Hag decided to bench him because he did not want to take risks in the last minutes with 10 men. Ten Hag stated that the situation for Argentina was “not too bad” following the game, but reports now suggest that the injury is “worse than expected” following a first assessment.
Garnacho might not be able to make his Argentina debut in the next friendly but did not give an estimated recovery time. The teenager had a fantastic breakout season with the Red Devils this season. He has scored nine goals and many of those have come in decisive moments.
He had a brief cameo appearance against the Saints over the weekend and appeared to be in good spirits, but a scissor challenge from Walker-Peters prevented him from continuing.
Garnacho allegedly sprained the fibula-astragalar ligament in his right ankle. The attacker might come back in two weeks for the Red Devils.
In our opinion, United will likely request that Garnacho be pulled from Argentina’s international friendly so that he may play against Newcastle United next month.
United will face Fulham in this weekend’s FA Cup quarterfinal at Old Trafford. They will play their next league match at Saint James’ Park on April 2.
Due to Casemiro’s suspension, United has already experienced a setback on the journey to Tyneside. After receiving a red card on Sunday, the Brazilian will miss the next four league games.
