Manchester United FC are rumored to be keeping tabs on Italian shot-stopper Alex Meret this summer. The Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is tempted to sign the Napoli goalkeeper as a direct replacement for out-of-form David de Gea ahead of next season.
De Gea’s form between the sticks has been disastrous of late. The Spaniard has been too error-prone to be considered for more first-team action. However, the absence of any quality shot-stopper’s at Solskjaer’s disposal at the club has meant that the 29-year old De Gea’s spot in the starting XI has been unrivaled.
The 23-year old Meret’s transfer has been prioritized by the Manchester United FC boss over the past few days, according to reports. The Italian international has been a solid performer for Napoli in recent times. However, the new manager of the Serie A outfit, Gennaro Gattuso. has preferred Columbian shot-stopper, David Ospina, over Meret in goal for his side.
Meret has been tipped to become one of the most promising goalkeepers to emerge from the Italian league in the years to come. He earned his first international cap for the Gli Azzurri last year and looks set to rival Gianluigi Donnarumma for the first-team spot in the national team setup.
Signing the Napoli man could be a good piece of transfer business by Solskjaer for the Reds Devils this summer. At just 23, Meret has a long way to go in terms of the overall development as a first-team option for Manchester United FC. Moreover, in the limited showings he has got on the pitch for his current side, the goalkeeper has been largely impressive.
