Alex Telles: I’m really happy with my first season at United

Alex Telles has opened up on his debut season with Manchester United by saying that he is happy with this season.

The Red Devils paid £13.6 million to FC Porto to sign the bold left-back in last year’s summer transfer window. The time was expiring for Luke Shaw to demonstrate that he has the quality to be the best optional full-back at Old Trafford.

It seemed as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would immediately draft Alex Telles in the starting XI. The 28-year old tested positive for COVID-19 soon after his appearance which gave a couple of more freedoms to Shaw to make up for himself.

The English defender made the best out of those odds and showed that he merits a top spot in the team. His great performances all through the season gifted him the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award. Nonetheless, this constrained Alex Telles to invest more energy on the bench which he didn’t expect.

But Telles was still satisfied with his role. While talking to the club’s official site, he said: “I believe I’ve made the most of this season. I’ve learned a great deal, I learned a lot of things, I’ve developed as a player and a person as well. I’m really happy with my first season at United and I’m sure that next season will be even better. I think I always took the opportunity to do my best whenever I was on the pitch. I had good games, with the adaptation process the first season isn’t easy, but I believe that when Ole gave me the opportunity and placed his trust in me and put me on the pitch, I did my best. I’m sure that I’ll continue doing even better to spend more time on the pitch and get a lot more minutes.”

At FC Porto, Telles created himself as an attacking full-back. In four years with the Portuguese club, he figured out how to score 26 goals and gave 50 assists. This season, he has helped with three assists however is yet to score his first goal for United.  Telles has a heavenly left foot, and Red Devils fans are yet to see his best.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to discover a framework in which he can play the Brazilian full-back more consistently next season.
