As reported by the Mirror, Manchester United outcast Alex Telles is included in Sevilla’s squad to play against his parent club on Thursday night.
The Spanish side will go to Old Trafford to face Erik ten Hag’s team in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal clash.
Telles was granted permission to play against United “under the rules of his loan deal” when he signed a season-long loan with Sevilla last summer. The defender’s future at Old Trafford can be affected by United’s willingness to let Telles play.
The 30-year-old’s contract still has 14 months left, but it appears doubtful that after his loan period is through, he will be reintegrated into United’s lineup. The full-back has provided three assists in 29 appearances for Sevilla this season after recovering from a knee injury he suffered during the World Cup in Qatar.
Last Friday, Sevilla and Celta Vigo drew 2-2, and he came off the bench. There are chances that he might play versus United. Most of the time, loaned players don’t play against their parent club. Nonetheless, Ten Hag made the decision last summer not to include such a provision in the Brazilian’s contract.
There was always a risk that Sevilla, who was at the time playing in the Champions League, would wander into the Europa League and run into the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has already filled his full-back spot by signing replacements for Telles. Tyrell Malacia joined the team last summer, while Luke Shaw just recently inked a new contract.
Sevilla is reportedly not keen on making Telles’ loan transfer permanent in the summer. While they are only five points above the La Liga relegation zone, the Spanish team has more important things to worry about.
Telles moved to Galatasaray in January 2014, which marked the beginning of his professional career in Europe. Before joining Porto in July 2016, he spent the 2015–16 season on loan at Inter Milan. His four-year stay in Portugal came to an end when United contacted him.
Telles won eight trophies in Europe, including two Portuguese Primeira Liga championships and the Turkish Super Lig championship before moving to Old Trafford.
Telles found it challenging to overtake Shaw in the pecking order after joining United. His first two seasons at Old Trafford saw him play just 30 Premier League games.
It seems that he would sign for a new club this summer and end his career as a United player.
