Andre Onana: The only positive player in another lackluster display

Despite Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, their goalkeeper Andre Onana delivered an impressive performance once again.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who recently joined the Red Devils from Ajax this summer, had a solid outing against the London rivals.

Onana started his club career with a clean sheet in his debut match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Although the African star couldn’t replicate his clean sheet performance on the road against Spurs, the 27-year-old goalkeeper put on a commendable display. He was not to blame for either of the goals conceded.

As per Statman Dave, Onana had an impressive passing record, completing 22 out of 28 passes, including four successful long balls. Additionally, he won all of his aerial duels and made five saves during the match.

Man United began the game well against Spurs and had a strong case for a penalty due to a handball in the box. However, they couldn’t capitalize on their early momentum, and the home team gained confidence before halftime.

Spurs managed to score right after the break, and Onana couldn’t do much to stop Pape Matar Sarr’s goal. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes should have been more aware of Sarr’s late run into the box.

The second goal for Spurs came from a Lisandro Martinez own goal, and the keeper couldn’t be blamed for it either. Overall, despite the team’s loss, Onana’s performance was positive.

He displayed confidence in his distribution from the box. While there were some misplaced passes in the second half, it’s expected that he will improve as he develops a better understanding with his teammates.
