Manchester United legend Andy Cole believes the Red Devils need to try and bring in another striker in the summer transfer window in order to compete with juggernauts Liverpool and Manchester City.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his forward line when the transfer window opens to give support and competition to English forward Marcus Rashford who has carried the burden of scoring goals on a regular basis for the Red Devils this season.
The 22-year-old English star is United’s leading goalscorer this campaign but the failure to replace Belgian star Romelu Lukaku in the s summer meant that the 20-time Premier League giants had to bring in Nigerian star Odion Ighalo on loan in January as they attempted to cope without Rashford while he was out with a back injury.
The 20-time English champions have long been admirers of Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic striker Harry Kane but with United’s vice-chairman Ed Woodward suggesting there will be a lack of transfer activity amid financial ramifications of the coronavirus outbreak, a move for the England national team captain seems highly unlikely in the summer.
However, five-time Premier League winner Andy Cole thinks that bringing in an additional forward to add competition to the squad in the summer would be a wise move by Manchester United
While speaking to Goal, the 48-year-old revealed sent out a message to the United board outlining they should snap up a striker in order to compete with Premier League duo of Manchester City and Liverpool, “I think they do need another striker. If you look at teams at the top, Manchester City and Liverpool, if you look what they’ve got, they’ve got more than one striker. During my time at United, there was more than one striker, if you want to be a team that competes at the highest level you need more than one.”
