Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed that Anthony Martial will also miss the clash against Southampton in the Premier League this Saturday after a thigh injury.
The Red Devils suffered a shock defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend as Roy Hodgson’s men left Old Trafford with all three points thanks to a last-minute winner by Patrick Van Aanholt. It was United’s first loss of the season and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a few problems that need sorting out.
In the first half of the game, English left-back Luke Shaw suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by club captain Ashley Young. And just before the full-time whistle, Martial was hobbling off the pitch with a thigh strain.
After the game, United boss Solskjaer admitted that the duo could be available for the clash against Southampton as he hoped they could return to training this week. While speaking in a post-match interview the 46-year-old said, “We’ll have to wait and see, hopefully, they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.” But it seems that Shaw will be out of action for nearly a month and further information on Martial’s injury will be provided on Friday morning.
The 23-year-old French winger was one of United’s best players on the pitch in the early parts of the season as he scored two goals and registered one assist as well in three games. But Martial will miss the trip to St Mary’s on Saturday and it’s likely that Mason Greenwood will deputize for the injured forward.
